Companion
Uthman ibn Affan (RA)
Twice a son-in-law of the Prophet ﷺ, known for modesty and open-handed giving — including equipping the army of hardship.
Wealth can harden a heart or soften it. Uthman (RA) let his wealth serve Islam — quietly, generously, and without peacock pride.
Modesty and Honour
Uthman was among the earliest Muslims and married two daughters of the Prophet ﷺ in succession — a rare honour that earned him the title Dhun-Nurayn. Even the angels were said to feel shy of his modesty.
The Army of Hardship
When the Muslims needed funds for Tabuk, Uthman gave so much that the Prophet ﷺ said nothing would harm Uthman after that day. Later, as Caliph, he oversaw the standardisation of the Quranic mushaf so the ummah would recite with one clear text.
The Lesson
Give before you are asked twice. Protect the Quran in your home by learning it and living it. Softness of character is not weakness when it is paired with sacrifice.
